The 80th anniversary of VE Day will be marked on 8 May 2025 – signalling eight decades since the end of the Second World War in Europe. This year's commemorations provide a unique opportunity to connect younger generations with this pivotal chapter in history.

Blackpool is preparing a series of events as the town joins the rest of the nation to celebrate the anniversary of VE Day on Thursday 8 May 2025. Flags will be raised, ceremonies of reflection held, and tributes made in the town to celebrate the 80thanniversary of VE Day.

VE Day, or Victory in Europe Day, marks the end of World War II in Europe, celebrated on May 8, 2025. VJ Day, or Victory over Japan Day, commemorates the end of World War II in the Pacific, celebrated on August 15, 2025. These dates mark the surrender of Nazi Germany and Japan, respectively, though fighting in the Far East continued for months after VE Day.
